For the Cause

  |  Gettysburg Histories

Gettysburg Histories specializes in preserving our local history. We focus on events, people, and places at roughly the time of the Civil War. Presentations range from 20 to 60 minutes in length; fees are negotiable, with a portion going to local preservation efforts. Adams County Underground Railroad Tours last about three hours and cost $15 for adults, $5 for students.

Welcome to Gettysburg Histories.

Immediately following Dedication Day ceremonies at Soldiers National Cemetery, Scott Hancock, associate professor of History and Africana Studies at Gettysburg College, will deliver the keynote address at this year’s U. S. Colored Troops (USCT) Graveside Salute. The salute will begin at about noon near the grave of Charles H. Parker, located in the northwest part of the cemetery. USCT reenactors from the Washington, DC, area will take part, and the Honor Guard of Biglerville American Legion Post 262 will post the colors and play taps.

Call for reenactors    Hello, Friends of the USCT! I hope you are well. Please help spread the word that I am looking for USCT reenactors to attend and participate in this annual event. I may be able to arrange funding for some hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. Let me know if you are interested, and please forward this invitation to others who might want to take part. Contact me at (717) 357-5812 if you have any questions. Thanks!
